What a great find. Here in the US we think of "old" as over 100 years old. In Europe they think "old" is something 1000 years old.

Robert, that is a great find, but I have a problem with the Laws there in "Jolly Old England", on that they claim everything on the surface, and under, as well. That to me reeks of "hen-house" ways! Of course the same thing applies in Mexico. All treasure belongs to the Government. Not all are turned in. I have no idea why that is.

That's neat!

I think in England they pay the finder whatever the gov decides it's worth. Probably less than they could sell them for.

I'm happy if I dig up a 50 year old wheatie over here Wink

Pretty cool those hordes keep turning up! Perhaps those Vikings should've been better mapmakers than looters, eh? However, it's quite possible that some of these hordes were sacrifices to their deities vs. simply forgotten valuables. That may be particularly true for items thrown in bogs.

Regarding finds in England: if a treasure hunter finds something on a farmer's land, the law is such that the finder and farmer split the proceeds equally. I forget who told me that, but it sounds equitable to me.
