Cathy, I can't vouch for the QX5, but the QX3, which I do have is worth my $70.00. It has a small detail, in that the focus is very touchy, but, I made a round adaptor for it that sits in the ring of my QSZ, and it then becomes very steady, and easily adjustable. It has 10X, 60X, and 200X, as does the QX5. Hope this helps.

Hi, the QX3,and 5 both have 'jumpy' focus adjustment mechanisms. though being the 'tinkerR' that i'am; i took my QX5's base apart (it has the the adjusting platform). i added a couple small "O-Rings" on the adjustment knob shaft[removed end play]which i also dabbed some mineral(baby)oil) on. secondly i added some 'vasoline' to the plastic gears and the 'rails' that the 'platform' slides on . much smoother now , though i'll admitt takes a bit of a light touch in adjusting. on the auctions(if your buying) make sure they include the 'software' CD disk. all of my pictures posted here and linked to are from a QX5 10X,60X and 200X same as QX3.

ok at the risk of looking stupid what is a QX5? i have a scope i got off ebay but there are no names on it at all.
isn't the QX5 and 3 a toy that can be purchased at toys R us? or am i thinking of another scope. I'm not trying to put anything or anyone down just trying to figure out what i have is all. i paid almost 200.00 for it on ebay and was under the impression it is just a no name scope or off brand
Thanks

Gary: I believe it is. I bought something like that way back when, but the images aren't all that clear (Plastic Lens) and the Light always made the coin look bluish purple. Basically a kids toy. The only thing I liked about it was the camera buidt into the scope and the view screen was your monitor instead of looking through an eye peice. But the negatives far out weigh the positives. You've got the better setup.

I stayed away from the so-called "toy scopes" because they don't do well with imaging coins...the lighting is wrong. Because I was going to be publishing my images, I had to go the more expensive (but much more rewarding) route.

Cathy, Here is a computer microscope, QX3. Like Chuck says, the "real mcCoy" is the best. Will try to send a couple photos for examples.
LATER

Here are three photos from the QX3, and here is what it looks like:

Darrel, did you get the XP drivers? You will need them, or the 'puter will crash!
Re the ones shown on the link:
The iten shown, and WITH the XP drivers is the only one I saw that I could recommend.
Cathy, I can't comment about the QX5. Mine is the QX3, and I paid $70.00 for it, over a year ago. If you go for the "3", be sure you get the drivers.
Here is how I mounted it on my QSZ frame:

Darrel, you will find a lot of uses for the "machine" Enjoy.
It can be made even more useful if you make a mount for it on another base. The one I have had adjustment problems, and I had to take it apart, with no improvement, so the adaptor was born. They are much cheaper to buy, now. I got mine when they first came out, and you know what that means....
