Hard to tell what really caused what appears to be a doubled L. It could be a doubled die, but I guess we will really never know. Anyways, I think it is too minor to list, even if it was a ddo.

You might look close at the top of the letters of the motto, the master doubling on some of them shows on the top of GOD going to the center and some show on liberty but I don't think it looks like yours.
The L looks like a minor ddo, it could have the master doubling (or not) and be a minor ddo that shows on the L.

I didn't note any notching on thebottom of the "B", so it would be hard to say, for sure.
I don't think they re-tool the dies. I could be wrong.

I've added two more pics.
One of a ridge to the left of the vertical part of the L. This is partly why I wondered if there was subsequent tooling (not sure I'm correctly using the vernacular). The ridge does not seem to have the characteristic of typical flat-filed strike doubling. But at any rate, I am simply curious. It's not a big find, nor was I pining for a listing. Simply trying to learn something. Thanks for your input.

The next is a characteristic I missed the first time. it is a split serif on the upper left part of the D mintmark (also a VERY minor soft split on the lower left, as well).

Looks nice, but it might be master die doubling. That was common that year. I save the ones with that separation though. There are a few dies that it is weaker than this one. But check out Chuck's book on page 203 & 205. The lower image on 205 shows the same mark on the L that is the master die doubling, but if you look above the LI you can see the doubling that makes this coin 1961P-1DO-003. See what you think?

Coop, your right on the money. It looks so similar to the 1961P 03, where the doubling is on the horizontal tip of the "L", not to mention the ridge along the left side of the vertical part of the "L".
The only thing missing is the protrusion at the very top of the L and the I.
Since I found a handful of them in a mint bag, with the split serif on the D mint mark to boot, I think I will hang on to them in spite of probably being considered too minor.

I think that means they're the master doubling.
Like Coop said to be 1DO-003 it needs the doubling above LI.
Still neat because my 61-d cents don't show anything.

I agree it must no doubt be a master die. I have now found the variety both WITH and WITHOUT the D/D split serif variety

They always catch my eye and I THINK I found something, so I put them into a tube to re-check when I've found nothing for a long time, light right now. Not much good stuff has been under my scope. Just a few known varieties that I made a few Avatars for. The nice ones in case they are found on your birth year you can get an Avatar for you birthyear.
