This is a nice 1983 DDO that i believe to be 1DO-001. The only problem is the current 1DO-001 does not match this coin. The current coin appears to lack and significant doubling on TRUST while CONECA says 1DO-001 should have a strong spread on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. Is it possible that the current 1DO-001 on CC.com is in fact 1DO-003? Even the die scratches on the reverse are similar. Anyway, here are my shots on the coin. Steve

That coin is 1DO-001 (Coneca DDO Die-1, the one in the CPG as FS-035).

It's stronger than the other well known DDOs for the year.

Steve, I don't know what you are using to get those shots, but I would LOVE to get my views as large, and clear as those! I can see the anomilies, very clear, even with my problem! If I could get my scope to give me that kind of magnification, I wouldn't be considering on giving up the varieties. I can't focus on small areas, which makes it very hard to determine many details. Doesn't help my typing either. thanks to the preview, I can get most of the mistakes!

Here's one of the others, 1DO-003. Couldn't get a good photo since it's in a holder. It has less doubling on LIBERTY than your 1DO-001 coin.

I've seen the 1DO-001 coins looking nice like yours where you can see all the doubling even on TRUST and I've also seen ones where it barely shows because they had so many bubbles in the plating. I've never found the 1DO-002 but I've heard other people have more luck finding them. It's the one with the most doubling on the date.

Did you guys cherry pick those coins or did you purchase them sold as a variety? Those are great coins. The reason I ask is I have found virtually zilch for varieties for memorial coins except for some common varieties from the 1960's. It kills my motivation to look when I search for days and can not find one decent variety. If you cherry picked those I would think about getting up the energy for another shot at searching.

It takes just the right coin to come under your scope/loupe. You never find it if you don't look. I've had a dry spell lately, but I've not looked as much lately. They are there if you keep looking.

The 1983 1DO-001 was the 1st decent DDO I ever found some years ago. It's not the greatest spread but it sure did get my blood flowing that day. Pulling class 9's out of rolls are kind of fun when they are big enough but there is nothing like putting a coin under the scope and seeing big ol' splits on the numbers and letters. Keeps you coming back for more.

Just did a side by side comparison on 1983P-1DO-001 and 1983P-1DO-003 and yours is definitely the first die.
