I just found three (1DR-001) of these beauties in a crappy BU roll bought from Brian Rebar. The price of the roll was appropriate for the condition of the coins. I knew that the roll had to be search by him but I guess the reverse of the coin isn't important as the obverse. It just goes to show that every roll needs to be checked again, even if you know someone else with great knowledge of the series did the checking. Steve

I am one of those half searchers. Unless it is a year with a lot of clear DDR varieties i don't usually spend a lot of time looking at the reverse. My mistake probably.

ROLLMEUPABE, you and I should search coins, "in tandem"! I, too am mostly a "half" searcher, but I always like to check the reverse. I have never found anything on the obverse, except for some RPM's, or varieties of them.

When I started variety hunting I only looked for the big well known DDOs.
One day I decided to look at the obv of some 83 rolls that I only checked for DDRs and I found one 83 1DO-001 on a coin I had only checked the rev for the big DDR.
After that I always give a second look and find some nice minor ones.

It seemed to be the norm on years past that most folks just checked the obverse for doubled dies. That is probably the reason why some nice DDRs had not been discovered until recently. The 1942 DDRs with the class 4 reverses is an example of what nice DDRs can be found that are not all class 6 types. I for one have checked both side for as long as I have been collecting. It is also another reason why Chuck and I believe that there may be many hundreds of doubled dies that have still not been reported on the Lincoln Cents.

Not surprising, Bob, I dare say that every major 20th century doubled die in any denomination was on the obverse.

I believe Brian is still a repunched mintmark searcher. There are a number of people who search roll after roll for repunched mintmarks only, and don't bother with P mint or reverses.
There's yet still another entire class of roll searcher who digs through roll after roll for high grade coins only. If it won't grade 66 or higher, they leave it in the roll.
I wouldn't completely discount any roll from any source. Anyone is bound to miss something here or there.

I can say that i was a solid rpm searcher for years and just recently started searching for doubled dies. Also I find that its a good idea to research rolls even if you have already pulled rpms from them. If you search like me I find 1 and start looking for markers and whip through the roll. Then I look again a month later and find something else. Even after I started searchin for doubled dies i never really looked for doubled eyelids and bam found 3 dif double eyelids so far in about 10 rolls.

Dito, my biggest problem is finding the time and because of that, I limit my most of searches to wheats and only to double dies. First, I do my research on CC.com and CONECA. For example, 1936 is a very good year for double dies, and even though there are a few for 1935 like this one, it looks like "problems" 1936 carried over into 1937. It means that I'm going to look at every 1936 & 1937 coin I see. My searches in BU 1937 rolls have yielded nearly a full roll of class 2 DDO's. CONECA list 15 DDO's and I have 5 different ones listed on CC.com. 1938 looks alot like 1935 as far as double dies go with one nice DDO and a few nice class 6 DDR's plus a few very nice RPM's. Since these dates are alot more expensive in AU/BU than 1936 & 1937, they get my same attention--I look at every coin for DDO's. In reality, I search nearly everything before 1942 for double dies and the known good RPM's. Steve
