Hi Folks,
I guess all the well deserved excitement about the 1982 doubled die leaves this one in the dust, but here is another example of a variety left undiscovered for 84 years!
It's not much to look at, and the coin is well worn, but this is the only example of any 1923 variety I have ever heard of. All my research has found nothing else for the date. It is a moderate class 6 doubled die, with the extra thickness showing on the date, LIBERTY and the motto. Time to check back on your 1923 cents, and see if you can find a better example of this one!

Very nice! Now I'd like to see one of those in AU or better!

So many of the pre 1935 pennies I have looked at appeared to have been smooshed on the railroad tracks so I always assumed there was nothing to find. I am currently going blind looking at 1982 reverses so 1923 will have to wait a few more years for me. Congrats on an interesting find.
