I don't believe it to be the over mintmark. The vertical bar of the D is very pronounced and runs north from the lower serif of the S mintmark on the OMM. I just don't see that on your coin. I do not know if this OMM gets stronger with die wear, but I have never seen one in EDS or even EMDS.

Bob,
I know what you are saying but I think the top part of a D mint mark appears in the upper part of the S. My picture taking skills are probably part of the problem also. Would you or Coop like to take a look if I mail you the coin? I'll be asking for the standard 24 year turn around service.
My optimism for this coin may stem from the fact that I am a Boston native and Red Sox fan ! I have been to Colorado twice and saw a game at Coors Field so I really like Denver. Unfortunately I have to root against them for this series.

John: I agree with bob on this one. The first thing I notice on the first image is the machine doubling on the 1 & 9. You can see it on the mintmark on the second image. So I don't think it is anything unless I'm missing something. The last image is so enlarged that nothing would look like something that close. But I don't think anything is going on on this coin. If you have to look that closely, there would probably be no premium on that coin. The 1946 coins were notorious on the extreme die wear. Some dies you can hardly even see the last two digits. I've seen the last two digits gone and the mint marks strong. So I guessing they over used the hubs that year that made weak dies. I have nothing to back this up except for the weak examples I've noticed.Yours doesn't have that problem, but that is common with the weak dates for this year.

I would be happy to have a look at it for you just to make absolutely sure. As far as the standard 24 year turn around service, you can only get that service by special request, and the 'standard' $2400.00 fee. Don't forget to include the Ebay Postage and handling fee of 1.4 million dollars
I can understand you rooting for the Red Sox...especially being a native. I too grew up in Boston, and my loyalty to the team has never wavered. I hope we get to add another championship to the collection.
Email me if you want to send the coin, and I will send you the address.

This is not the S/D. The OMM is far more obvious than this. There is no sign of the lower serif or the vertical bar on this coin, and those parts are plainly visible on the OMM.

Like Steve Martin used to say on SNL, "I am just a wild and crazy guy". I know it does not have the tell tale vertical bar in the lower part of the S but I swear I see the upper part of the D in the upper part of the S. I also did not get a great picture due to the lighting I had.
I sent the coin to Bob for a look. It may not be "the" OMM listed on the sight but it could be "an" OMM not listed or a different die state. It never hurts to dream.

I have found this coin elusive even to purchase. Made a few ebay buys, found them all to be less than genuine and sent them back for refunds.

That is a beauty. I am encouraged to see the vertical bar is not as prominent on your coin as the coin pictured on coppercoins.
