Recently, there has been more than a few auctions on the strong doubled die 2006P-1DO-017 (also listed as CDDO-028, WDDO-032 and CONECA, DDO-003).
Since this die is rare, be very careful what you bid on. First, check the location of where this coin is coming from; it should be around the Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky area. Second, check the pictures and compare them to those found in Coppercoins. Bob P. has put up some great pictures of this die which make comparisions easy. Third, check the seller and his or her feedback.
Now one auction has thrown a challenge out stating that this is the 2006P-1DO-017 and since I am included in that statement, I will answer. While I do believe that this auction is showing a 2006 doubled die obverse, IT IS NOT 2006P-1DO-017. As far as I know, this die, 2006P-1DO-017, has not been found in TAMPA, Florida area and has not been found in the quantities stated.

I have already sent a message to this seller about his claim that this coin is the 'Biggie'. It is not....period! BJ is correct in that it was found primarily in Indiana. To date, I have tracked the numbers of this variety found, and have verified between 17-23 ONLY...no 40 rolls of it, and certainly none from Tampa.
I took this guy up on his challenge if he wanted to insist it was -017...not if it was a doubled die. I suspect he will get a little nasty with me because I suggested he change his auction to make sure his facts were correct. If I hear anything, I will let you know.

It quotes 10 years of knowledge and lists every expert and Coneca and Coppercoins in the listings but the coins aren't even similar to the varieties they're listed as. Boo Hiss!

I did receive a reply from this person and to be perfectly honest, I am glad I was wrong about his reply. He seems to be receptive to my email. His name is Daryl. Here is his reply:
hello, Bob my name is Daryl Stetson it is nice to finally meet you! and thank you for your attention nottice, and i NEVER WHAT ANYONE TO THINK THEY CAN'T BID ON MY ITEMS... or have CONFIDENCE as i never want anyone here to feel mislead! as i have been trying to get all my coins authenticated since last year. and as to the photos i do not own a scope of 30 to 50 times. to show the details of all splits.. as i found about 30 rolls of these last march and some D mints with doubling and both stages of rev and some satin finish!and a few with die cracks thru E in one rev.. I also have several rolls of 2005 DDO's
I would love the link as i reseach all sites and books coneca, potter, coopercoins, pcgs, and more
i can email you better pics. and feel free to contact me
i will be at the FUN SHOW AGAIN in Orlando..
and yes i feel the same as to misleading as to my coins.. as i have sold over 500 error type coins here on ebay and more privately..
i would love to meet or what ever to show what i have?
as to trust sending in coins!!!! not there! as to past experiences with graders..
lookking forward to your contact and any one else who wishes to that know these coins!
and others in the 05, 06, &07 DDO's or DDR's
wavysteps! collums.. and die crack shull or reverse..

Daryl
I told him I would be happy to meet up with him at the show and look at the coins he has.
I hope he does the right thing and takes care of putting the right info in his auction, or dropping the thing all together.

That's good that he sounds receptive. If he wants help on the varieties this site or Coneca would be a good place to start and I'm sure he would get good info if he listed pics here or there and asked for inputs on varieties. Maybe he will correct the listings.

Hehehe, I think that if & when Bob meets up with this guy in Orlando at the Fun Show he'll find out that the guy is quite a few bricks short of a house...like maybe a whole truckload! It sounds to me like the guy is either a crook or else is very "mental" and it's just a matter of time before he's dealt with on a professional basis if ya know what I mean.
Ed, it's comical to me. Surely if a serious collector reads that garbage he'll know right away from the pictures that there's not a speck of doubling in any of his photos. And in his descriptions of the coins, ....omg! Surely nobody who knows anything at all about variety cents woulld pay him credence. I think he's wasting his money.
Bob, you mentioned the number of the #17 die being between 17 & 23. I think the number that we agreed on last time we talked was 19. I'm not sure but I think that included the two that you found. Since then I have found 2 more and I saw where Billy Crawford sold one last week. (It was a stage-B) So assuming that Billy found one, my total is 19 + 2 + 1 = 22 total population of both stages. I only know of 5 of the Stage-A. I have 2, I sold 1 and Bob has 2. The rest are Class-B. That means there are 22 - 5 = 17 Stage-B cents known.
Confusing but here's my count:
Stage-A = 5
Stage-B = 17 (assuming Billy Crawford found his on his own)

The seller sent a few of us PMs over on the CONECA forum and he is somewhat confusing.
I hate to see a great doubled die maligned as this seller is doing to 2006P-1DO-017 and that is one of the reasons that I seldom participate on auctions from Ebay.
Maybe one of these days, when Ebay can start policing the bad coin auctions (better yet, all the auctions), I'll go back.

I think it has no effect on legit coin listings since no real variety collector would buy those listings.
Here's the easy cure if you use saved searches:
Open your ebay search link and click "advanced search" then click "from sellers" then pick "exclude" from the pull down then enter the unwanted sellers IDs seperated by commas then click "search" at the bottom then click the heart to add the new link to your favorites and then delete your old link and the bad seller(s) will no longer pollute your searches.
Ya-ba-da-ba-doo they're gone for good and then you can search without the distraction.

Murph,
Your numbers and mine are pretty much exact. I couldn't find my documentation that listed specifics, so I took an educated guess on the number. Either way, they are still extrememely scarce.
I will take some time with this person at the FUN show, and hopefully guide him in the right direction concerning his auctions. He also has a difficult time determining the difference between mechanical and hub doubling. Sometimes, you gotta take the time to teach and hope they learn.

Hillarious!
His link to coppercoins.com is useless because he spelled it coppercions.com.
I have a very good customer who stopped buying from me all of a sudden and I just figured it was because of Christmas...no. He bought some coins from Daryl and now I think he's trying to get his money back.
I don't know what the average variety collector is going to think after being hit with all these false and misleading coin ads at eBay. I am going to sell some more of my coins on eBay just to try to bring some integrity back to the place! lol (There are some people at pcgs forum who would get a big kick out of that statement!)
