What you may be seeing is a flatness to the peripheral design elements caused by some of the coin counting machines that are / were in use.

Hi BJ,Thank you for your response.Hope you are having a great day. I just bought about 20-30 rolls of bank stored, shotgun wrapped rolls of wheaties that I have been searching.About 1/3 of the rolls are all pre 1920 and several of all these coins appear to have thickening in various areas mentioned in other threads as being ddo's or ddr's.Very few of all the coins date newer than 1940.I have a few 1917's in question also.Is there any way to tell for sure which case it would be?I would guess markers for certain coins would be used.Right?

Ken,
Put anything questionable aside for a second look or post a photo here.
On the 1917 cents look close at the inside of the R of TRUST for the extra vertical bar and at the T for a very wide looking vertical bar on the DDO.
I've seen some worn ones where the dates look wide from wear but if you look at the areas that showed doubling that are protected from wear (like the R) you might be able to verify it.

Markers can be tricky on the older dates, especially when looking at a coin with circulation wear. As Ed suggested, keep those questionable coins aside and post them on this forum.

BJ, you can get around the "DEBUG" thing if you save the PM , and then open the "saved Box. It will work normal then, (except for the "debug" prompting, in which case just hit the back button, or the reply/submit button.

This is most likely just a soft strike that left the outer devices shallower, thus thicker in appearance.
