This was referred to me as an obverse prisoner cent. There are 2 columns starting above the 19 in date up to just below the nose and some other portion of something going almost to the rim from there.I don't know if it can be seen in the scans. Also has slightly rotated die as seen in the scans and a nice die break on EN of cents.Lastly a strong rotation cc of the mm as hopefully seen in the last scan. All comments welcome. Thanks,Ken

I can just barely make out the clash, but I do know that 1972 had a bunch of them. There are quite a few nice 'prisoner' cents for 1972P and 1972D. As far as the rotated reverse, I can also say that those are very plentiful for 1972D (at least here they are as I have found about 30 of them). However, I have not checked whether the ones I have are all from the same die either.

Hello Bob,I know my pics aren't so good. With coin in hand the clash is easily seen.Thank you for your comments.Any thoughts on the MM.As seen in the pics it is about 45 degree cc rotation. You can see inside the top right corner of the loop, the curve of the d and the 2 white dots are the verticle bar. There is also an anomly to the left of the bust at the shoulder, but I know the scan doesn't show it.No references on site for an rpm of this degree.Ken

Ken,
If you are referring to the mintmark as being a possible RPM, I can't tell. Please be aware that about 10 1972Ds that were listed as RPMs were later rejected as RPMS because of a damaged mintmark punch. There are still about 8 legitimate RPMs for the date though. I just can't tell with these pics. Maybe a closeup of the date/MM area??
