I just went through a roll of BU 64 memorials and found what appears to be another "S" punched in States? You can clearly see 2 separate "S" near the top.
What do you think...is this a DDR?

Or it could show on UNITED "U" "E" "D". If it is the only area affected, I would wonder it is a bag mark.

Dick: I saw that to, but he is taking about the mark on the top of the "S".

Hand-punched? In "64? A single letter? I may be wrong, but I'll be obstinate, and say I still think it is MD. I have been wrong before, many times. Maybe this time too. It is a learning process, and I'm a slow learner!

Dick,
You might be looking at the letter tops, in the pic they look like MD but what we're looking at is the notch at the right edge of the top of the S.

there's definitlely a notch.. but the fs26 has that on the top AND the bottom of that S
perhaps it's one of the 60 '64 ddr's that's mentioned in the other thread
you've got something... don't spend it

"No", notching does not make it a doubled die for notching can be seen on die deterioration doubling as well.
As to your coin, it is hard to tell exactly what you have. I would expect to see some notching on the left arm of the T as well if it were a doubled die, but there appears to be none.
Maybe others can shed some light to the possibilities of what this is.

This may sound a little crazy but since the "notching" is so isolated to this one small area perhaps it's something else all together?
I'm not sure what the correct term would be...grease filled, break, die wear? Could something along these lines be the cause? It's almost like there is a triangular piece missing from this one area.

Like Coop said if you see it on other areas that would help tell you.
It's possible it was from something else but that notch does look promising. I have found other ones that look promising then disproved them so it can go either way.
Unless you can match it to an existing doubled die or get very good pics of the rest of it it's very hard to say. In order to be sure you might need to send it to an expert to see it in hand. Even the best experts probably won't be sure unless they see it.

I looked many times at the reverse and couldn't see anything. Here are some more pictures of the coin I don't see anything else that jumps out at me...what do you think?

Other than the S notch the rest of it looks about normal other than reflection.
