I'd say it's a die crack with some die chips forming. But still a neat one.

To be a CUD a section of the edge of the die must seperate (fall off or stay retained). The difference is this one has not gone all the way to the rim or fell off yet, it's still a crack. Maybe after more use that crack could grow and the section could come off then it would be a CUD.

Just my opinion Smile

Hi Ed and Coop,There isn't any gunk on the coin, just the discoloration. There does appear to be an extra layer of heads on the top ones though and the little chip on the lines.Must have been a large die crack Laughing Laughing Laughing Thank you for your responses,Ken

Now that's a interesting theory. I wonder if wheat would grow at Kennekott Very Happy http://www.kennecott.com/

That is a larger version of " The Lavender Pit", in AZ., I doubt wheat would grow there, even in the "tailings".

A little CUD, the reverse is weak opposite to the CUD on the obv. Looks like a blank planchet where the CUD is on the obv.

It's either an elongated, irregular die chip or a string of connected die chips. It's not a cud because there's no connection to the rim. A cud is a die break in which the outer margin of the field portion of the die, along with the adjacent rim gutter, breaks off. This leaves a featureless lump on the coin that extends in from the edge.
