OK,

It's a 1943-S steel has a strong SW Double, on Date & Mintmark. Ignoring the double the 4 is weak maybe 50% as compared to the 19_3. LIBERTY is missing the "I", the "R" has the closed part filled, and the "L" is very near the rim. So please disapoint me, so I don't get excited.

Thanks

Hi Shane,
Welcome to the coppercoins forum...we are glad you're here.
As far as your coin goes, it sounds like a very typical steel cent. This year saw an abundance of machine doubling, die deterioration, mushy strikes, grease filled errors and the like. Your coin seems to suffer from an abundance of these. I certainly hate disappointing anyone, but it seems like you were expecting that anyway?? Laughing If you have the capability of posting a pic here, we can give you a better answer.
I strongly suggest you keep looking though. There is still a lot to be found out there.

Thanks Bob! That would explain why I wasn't able to find any similar coins online. I did read of a couple of the faded 4, but that was about it. I'll try taking a pic. I like the coin it's the first I've ever found that was anything different than normal. Is there a list of other coins that have probs so often that there not considered rare?

Shane,
There are literally hundreds of things you can find on coins that is considered 'common' even though they are anomalies. Master die doubling, struck through grease, die deterioration, strike doubling etc are all seen in some numbers.
I would suggest you read through some of the other threads on this forum if you haven't already done so. Take a look at the pics some folks have posted, and you will see lots of examples of true varieties as well as other things.
Don't be afraid to post pics if you can. We have many folks here that will be happy to help you identify things.
