I was going to ask this by private message, because yes it might be a stupid question. Some others may not know either...So here goes.
I've noticed alot of my 60's-70's have really large dates, i.e. fat and or wide and thick. Was this "normal" for that era?
Thanks all,
Tery

The 1968 Cents have the devices touching/over the rim of the coin. Seems like that was the design that happened that year. The 1969 & 8 both have a lot of machine doubled devices on them those two years. (Most are extreme compaired to the ones we find now.) The early 60's the design of the large 1960 date seems to be carried to 1964. The 1965-67 seems to be the same size without mint marks on them those years. But it seems that change happens every 3-4 years in designs.

I'll be working on an E-book that will explain all the obverse and reverse changes that were made during the Lincoln cents 100 years. James Wiles just recently concluded his study on the Lincoln cent obverse and found over forty different changes through all those years and his findings will be included in this work along with his reverse die findings. This will be combined with a reworked "Master Hubs and Master Dies of the Lincoln Cent; 1909 to 2006 (2009)" which is now in an E-book. It will also discuss; how the dates were changed, what mint marks were used, what the different fonts were used form year to year and a bunch of other stuff.

Hopefully, this will be ready for the Jan. 2009 F.U.N. and will be given away at that show to all who join or renew their CONECA membership during that show.
