This coin appears to be MD. The top of the digit's are die deterioation. I can't figure this one out. Any Ideas?

That is not die deterioration doubling but plain old machine doubling. The easiest way to tell them apart is that machine doubling happens on the design element, while die deterioration doubling happens away from the design element (look at a poorman's double die from 1955; that is die deterioration doubling). Another clue is the way the metal flows in a radial pattern outwards when a coin is struck. This is what causes die deterioration doubling, so any doubling caused by this effect will be on the rim side of the design element.

Thank's BJ. The reason I though it might be die deterioation is the metal flow from the North of the digit's. The explanation you have given only explains the the best explanation.

Thank you David
