okay i need some education. how can a mint mark that has been hand punched get machine doubling I am dumb on this part lol

Darrell, I think I "might" be able to explain. The MM is hand punched, (was before 1990) and on the working die is transferred to the planchet during the strike. The lateral movement, such as a loose die, or worn grooves, ets will allow the die to shift, which scauses the MD. In other words, the MD is always post strike, if I understand the mechanics correctly. I accept any and all corrections to my theory.
