It's definitely an S/S West, but I can't seem to find any markers that match the current listings. Which do you think it might be.
Thanks

Off hand, and without doing overlays, I would say 1954S-1MM-010. The only positive way would be to do the overlay.

Although I can not match any markers, can the coin still be of a variety? Does this mean it may have been minted in the earlier stages of the die?
Thanks Bob. Any tips on how to do an over lay? I use Paint Shop Pro as my picture editor.

I will do the overlay for you using the pics you have here. I do not know much about your picture editor. I will post a result shortly. This coin is definitely a variety. If I can not match it up with any existing RPM, it would be a new one. It is possible that it is an earlier die state of a known RPM also.

OK, Here is the overlay for your coin. Based on the mintmark location it is definitely 1954S-1MM-010. Congrats on your find.

Thanks Bob. I think I figured out the overlay process in my editor. Looks like you beat me to it.
This is what I got using the 1954S-1MM-002 as an overlay.

Bob, could it be the same die, but two different numbers? I compared the two photos, and it looks like the same die.

The overlays look amazingly similar. Off hand I would say the difference is the tail of the 5 in the date. It doesn't seem that the very tip of the 5 in jstraw's overlay is lined up. On the other hand I am concerned with the 'filled in' portion of the lower loop of RPM-010. jstraw13, Please check your coin for any of these two markers. They may be ale to tell which one is which. I do have both of these varieties here in my files. I would be happy to personally examine them to make a final determination.

That's exactly what I needed. Thanks very much Bob. The marker you have for the 010 was not listed on the site.
My coin, though a little worn.

That is great! I am glad we figured it out. I will add this marker to the site for RPM-010. With all of the other markers I had for this die, I didn't think to put this one on the site in the first place. Sometimes when there are so many, you have to pick and choose which ones to put there. Thanks again!

Umm...hang out one second here...
Jstraw points to the crease on the rim to match a concentric doe gouge on a different place on Bob's coin. Bob, please correct him on the location of the concentric die scratch if you can. Another thing to make clear mention of is that smaller details perpendicular to the flow of metal so close to the rim are very fast to wear off the die...so that concentric die scratch probably didn't last very long.
I'm not saying the attribution is incorrect, but the comparison of markers to ascertain the attribution is off...because the two of you are pointing to completely different things.

I hear ya Chuck. I think the determining factor was the mintmak overlay though. The site lists plenty of markers for this coin. Wthout seeing it in person, I can't be for sure.
