This has the listed markers on the rev and the tiny gouge along the rim between the date and trust as the 1DO-001 LDS listed on the site.

I also see that it has what looks like class 2 doubling towards the center on the motto. I have 2 coins and they both have it but it's very hard to see until the angle/lighting is right.

Looks like if these did not have the class 6 doubling on the date and liberty they would have been nice DDOs just from the class 2 doubling on the motto. I guess these are realy class 6 and class 2 on the same coin.

There's also a 1937-D (1DO-001) class 6 DDO that has a minor class 5 on the motto. It's interesting that they had these DDOs with class 6 plus other (probably unrelated?) doubling.

Shows nice on the date:

(note tiny lamination peel near the L)
Curved letter spines on liberty from being a class 6:

Spread to the center on motto Class 2???:

Reverse markers:

Hey Ed,
Technically, you are correct. This die is indeed a class 2 + 6. The class 2 doubling is not apparent on a lot of these coins unless it is a BU copy such as yours. We made the determination not to list it for that reason, and the fact that it was too minor to list. I did ammend the die description to state that minor class 2 doubling can be seen on BU examples. Thanks!

Thanks Bob!

I thought it would show on your coin too.
It's minor but it's interesting to see different types of hub doubling on the same coin.

Smile

There's not only the fact that it usually only shows on BU coins, but also BU coins that are earlier die state. In later die states the minor doubling on the motto disappears.

Oh, and another 'important to note' fact...there are a number of different VERY similar class 6 DDOs for 1937S. I know of at least four different ones, and find circulated examples frequently, which is a significant hint that the number of different dies is probably higher - up to a dozen suspected.

Moral to the story: Be VERY careful when attributing 1937S class 6 DDO cents.
