1989 had larger devices than previous years. I thought that at first when I found one that looked that way. It is nice to see some design on the reverse appearing years after it should have been there. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

There are a couple of 1989 DDRs. Check for notching on the R of AMERICA and ONE CENT.

Tey just look thicker, because they are actually more like we ex[ected, and have had to look at for several years, " skinnk letters, and even the bust is skinny. Thr relief has changed, to remove stress, etc, but that wasn't a problem, as far as I can see in the '60's, and '70's. There were some very nice reverses, then, and not one is lucky to srr half of the letters in the USA.

You need to go back and photograph the R of AMERICA and the ONE CENT and post them here so I can tell if this could be a minor doubled die. None of what you've posted so far tells me definitively one way or the other.
