1960 D Master Die Doubling or DDO

This 1960 D is one of the many RPM's for the date. I was curious if the doubling on the 96 is master die doubling.

I think the doubled inside curls on 96 are from master die doubling.

All 60-d and 60-p SD cents show it clearly on the 6 and to some extent on the 9. The large date 60-P and 60-d don't have it.

Ed, couldn't see well enough to tell, one way or the other. I was going by Cucks post in CCF:quote:The little 'bit' on the inside of the 6 and the squared-off inside to the 9 on 1960 small date cents is NOT master die doubling. It's just a part of whatever procedure they used to make the design from which the master hub was created. Nobody knows for sure exactly what caused it, but it is definitely not master die doubling. By the way, all 1960 small date cents are like this to some degree. You will also find low relief squared off areas around some of the lettering in LIBERTY which is another part of the same anomaly.

The master die doubling on 1960 cents is on the large date coins and is in the E of WE.Un-quote. so I'm confused, (seems to be a constant)!

That sounds right.
Still makes sense think of it like master doubling, it looks doubled and came from the master so it got on the working dies and adds no value

I see the reasoning of not knowing the cause because that squared off thing on the 9 is not easy to explain.

When I see things like this I try to remember so if I see one without it I'll yell eureka!

BTW you can see something similar on all 1932 cents where the top of the 3 is doubled (but that is master doubling) I had one put aside until I read CDs book and saw it's on all of them and realized it was nothing special.

Ed, have never had that problem with the '32 cents. I didn't have any! I thnk Carol sent one. Not sure if P, or D. I'll look. I have one P, and one D. I believe Aarol sent them, as a said. she helped me fill a few holes in that album. I'll look at them, since I have the folder out. Thanks.
Later: I checked both, and they are so worn that there is no sign of anything, anymore.

I do not believe the 1960 small date to have master die doubling. It appears to be more closely related to some modification made to the master die or master hub to make the design work better. I don't know exactly, but since the shape of the anomaly does not match the shape of the final cut, I would say alteration/modification rather than doubling.

The 1960 large date cents all have some minor doubling inside the E of WE. That's what Dick was referring to above.
