I just found a 1943D lincoln with a doubled 4 that I cannot find listed. Is it listed anywhere? Also why did the Mint Chrome plate some of their Steel Cents? It was a very bad job of Chroming and to make matters worse half a roll was RPMs.

Hey Lucky,
Good to see ya back. As far as your 1943D goes, chances are it is one of the ones that suffer from die deterioration. I am not aware of any with just a doubled 4. There are a couple with a light spread on the 4 and the 3, but you should also see some spread on LIBE of LIBERTY.
Second...The mint did not chrome plate any of their steel cents. What you seem to have there is a roll of reprocessed steelies done somewhere else. If you have Chuck's book, he explains this in some detail. It begins on page 118, and that should answer your questions about the chrome plate appearance. Those reprocessed cents have no numismatic value, but the RPM is still an RPM. I guess it's just like cleaning a copper coin....once you do, it takes away from the value of the coin. Hope this helps!
