I remember hearing of a story that there was an experimental alloy used for some of the 1915 cents that shows today as striations (stripes) on some of the 1915 (Philadelphia, I would assume) cents. Has anyone else heard of this story, and can anyone confirm anything or add anything to this story?

I'm guessing that's what it was, but I had it in mind that they were bronze, more or less, and were not "rare" if you knew what to look for. Perhaps that was a convoluted interpretation of the true story you posted the link to. At any rate, I do remember that you could "tell" because of the striped planchet. Heck, it's easy enough to tell on that one because of its color alone.
